The Salt Path: Truth’s Disappearing Act

The Foghorn’s Eye: Truth, blurted once. Read twice.

‘Fact Has Left the Book’

It is with solemnity and several deconstructed trail mix bars that I confirm the disappearance of Fact from The Salt Path. Fact is missing, presumed ‘reimagined’, somewhere along the misty cliffs of Literary Licensing.

The alarm was raised in a Wiltshire book club when a member stood mid-reading and cried: ‘Wait… did any of this actually happen?’ Faint pleas from the footnotes — ‘That’s not quite right…’ — were drowned out by a stampede toward adaptation.

Eyewitnesses last spotted Fact stumbling inland, soaked manuscript in hand, weeping into a discount OS map. A hiker reported a vest marked: BASED ON EVENTS. NOT NECESSARILY YOURS. The publisher cited ‘emotional truth’ as the sturdier benchmark.

I followed the trail. It vanished into PR statements and narrative fog.
